Act Two - Scene Four - The Apparition

Act Two

Scene Four

The five figures are seated on the stage. The time is night during a storm. Lightning can be seen and heard crashing above them. Suddenly an apparition appears hovering. The figure is of a young man with a translucent blue glow. The figure is covered in a robe and facing the audience but then turns to the figures sitting.

APPARITION

 Rosa Dominguez, I am here for you.

             [One of the figures awakes and walks towards forward ].

Rosa Dominguez, I am here for you.

ROSA

Dios Mio, Am I dreaming. Most Holy Saints. who are you and

 why have you come for me heavenly spirit. Saints be

alive. Why would you scare a poor old woman to death like

this? Please be gone. I cannot bear any more pain than

I bear now. Please tell me what it is you want.

APPARTION

It is I that you have summoned. I am the spirit of the son

that you call Juan. What you see is the body that I would

have become and the voice which I would have spoken. The

Maker has sent me to provide you comfort.

ROSA

Juan, Juan and most cherished son Juan. Is that really you?

             {Falls to her needs}

 Oh heavenly Maker thank you for hearing my plea and

bringing my son Juan back to me. Juan are you all

right. Where have you been? I'm so happy for you and I am so

happy for me. You see I didn't know if you had a spirit. I

mean you were never actually born. I lost you Juan and I am

so very sorry for what happened to you. Can you forgive me?

APPARTION

I live amongst the unborn and innocents and our Maker holds

us the closest to his breast. We feel no pain and have

no remorse. We are with our Maker and have no concern that

our lives were short.

ROSA 

Juan, Juan my precious son. I will heed your words and be at

peace. Gracias Dios. Heavenly Spirits. But don't

leave me Juan. Please stay with me forever. Take care of me

and comfort me. We never had the chance to be together.

APPARITION

Rosa Dominguez, My place is with our Maker. I must leave you

now. Soon there will be someone who will come to you. Hold

them and love them as you would have me. That is our maker’s

wish.

ROSA

Please don't leave. Are you lost to me forever. Juan! Juan

come back to me.

               [The apparition vanishes, Ernestine rises and come to the front]

ERNESTINE

Why are you weeping Rosa?

ROSA

My son  Juan. He came to me. We spoke.

ERNESTINE

What did he say?

ROSA

He is with our Maker. I'm very happy for him. I always

believed he was lost.

ERNESTINE

I’m so glad for you.

ROSA

He said that someone would come to me. And I so I will

Wait as he asked me to.
